Vitamin E

A study published this week in the Journal of the American Medical Assn. (JAMA) found that high doses of Vitamin E can increase the risk of heart failure, especially in diabetics and those with who already have heart disease. A lot more research needs to be done, but the initial findings are alarming. Smaller doses such as found in daily multi-vitamins don't seem to create a problem, but stand alone doses of perhaps 400 mg or more are now suspect. I was alerted by a small piece in my local paper, but found lots more in a Google search using < Vitamin E + heart failure in group, and this may be new info for many of you. Tom

Hi Tom, When Charlie was in for his CHF, he asked them about a multi-vitamin. They said no probleb BUT do not take one with more than 400 mg of E. When I asked why, they said Vit. E is a blood thinner. I had no idea that it thinned the blood. Hugs, Barbee
