Thanks for the Welcome
Hi Karen, I am very glad that you started this group and that I found it. Already I feel better just from your letter. I too suffer from rebound migraines and the doctors so far have been unable to find anything to help. Being a fellow rebounder, I am sure that you know that morphine, demerol, ect. have no effect on the headaches but only temporarily. After it wears off, which is very quickly for me now, the pain and nausea is even worse. I am totally housebound now from mine. I was already on disability from seizures which started 3 years after the migraines. The migraines started in '92 and the seizures in '95, but until the past few months I could still ride in a car, go outside, ect., but now I am confined because the migraines have been rebounding so bad. I too was hospitalized about six weeks ago and 3 days after I got out I started migraining again. I feel so helpless. The doctors won't move my appointment up and my M.D. is on maternity leave, which leaves me with this jerk who thinks that I am only after narcotics, not even giving me a chance to explain that I can't take them because I will just rebound even stronger. The reason I call him a jerk is that he left me sitting in an exam room for 3 hours last week and everytime he deined to come and speak to me he treated me cruelly and like a criminal. Has anyone else been throught this. It was painful and humiliating. I was hurting so bad all I could do is cry which is not like me at all. His only advice was to go and sit at the emergency room until my neuro checked me in again. No thanks. I'll suffer until my appt. or as long as I can. Oh boy, sorry for the long speil. I guess that caught all of you up on my headaches. I'll tell you about the good things in my life in the next post. Thanks for listening, Sandra
Hi Kayhlan, Nice to meet you. Everyone here is so understanding and ready to help although I am sorry to hear that so many have received the same treatment that I did. My other doctors at the university do not treat me this way, thank God, in fact they are very compassionate, but also extremely busy, which is why I had to see that idiot. I am very sorry to hear of your treatment from your own M.D. Doesn't she realize that seeing another doctor in the same group is not a "drug seeker". She has your records right there in front of her. That is one of the reason they form a group so they can better assist their patients. My own little girl has seen several different doctors within our medical group. The receptionists even suggest it when doctors are busy and backed up. What is wrong with this doctor of yours? I am very sorry to hear of your additional problems besides migraines. They are enough to deal with and it sounds like yours come pretty often. Have you tried a urologist( hope I spelled that right)? Specialists are often much more sympathetic because they know what they are dealing with and how to deal with it. Let us know how you work this out. It could help anyone of us. I wish you the best, Sandra
In a message dated 99-03-13 20:52:57 EST, you write: << It has taken me all week to get up the nerve to even write you all, I am so humiliated and mortified. I feel so dirty somehow. And the migraine didn't leave for several days, but it's gone now, thank god. Kayhlan, Please don't feel that way. What that pharmacy did was terrible, I don't know if it was illegel but it seems to me it would be. I would call the district attorney and ask, if they don't know, they could tell you who would. I would also switch Dr.s and pharmacy. You do not deserve treatment like that, I would also report the Dr. for his attitude. I'm glad the migraine is gone. I will pray that you can find a Dr. and pharmacy who will help you. Cathy/Justin
Dear Kayhlan: Unless you agree to any degree that you are a "drug-seeker", then do NOT feel humiliated. Anyone with a health problem (and you have two) is entitled to seek medical care that is appropriate, so if that includes painkillers, so be it. I urge you to seek another doctor. Then write him/her a letter that describes why you went to see two doctors in August, what you sought, what you were given, why you saw another doctor recently, what you sought, and the nonsense that you were told. A letter is more effective than telling him/her in person. People tend to read a letter to the end, but in a conversation, you will be interrupted before you can explain the entire situation. Remember, 50% of all doctors graduated in the bottom half of their class. Hang in there! Jeff

sorry for not giving any history or info on why I joined this group. I am a 34yr old man who has suffered whith migraines since I was 15. I used to get them 2-3x's a year and they would last three days. About Eight years ago the started to become more frequent and last longer. I began to have them monthly then weekly and instead lasting three days they began to last weeks then months. I at that time got in contact with an amazing Dr. Dr.Morris Maizels. Luckily he is part of the Kaiser Network, but he is also one of the formost headache Dr's on the west coast. Unfortunately I am one off the 2% of patients that does not respond to almost anything. I am allergic to Imitrix and Relpax. Zomig stopped working. Beta blockers have to many side effects for me. I even gave myself DHE injections during attacks, and tried it IV twice a day for 5 days but it stopped working also. I have also tried Botox without any luck. I have also consulted with another prominent Dr. Dr.Kudrow, also here in Los Angeles without any other ideas. The only preventative I currently take is Topomax and 400mg of magnesium daily. neither of which seem to do any good. So at this point my Dr. has ok'd me to get Demerol 200mg, Vistiral 75mg and Torodal 60mg up to twice a month to abort my migraines that I get every week to week and a half
