side-effects after quadruple bypass surgery

My father underwent quadruple bypass surgery earlier this year. He has noticed some side-effects and we are not sure how to go about treating them. His main concern is his left arm. He finds he cannot extend it back (such as when putting on a shirt or jacket). There is extreme pain and it's really difficult since he's left handed. Also he notices that when he sits down, there is a burning sensation in his back which is also very uncomfortable. I was just wondering if anyone has experienced such side-effects or knows of any links to finding answers to his problems. I would appreciate any advice and look forward to your responses.

First, he should talk with his Primary Care Physician and perhaps also the surgeon. Second, if his insurance will cover it, he should go to Cardiac Rehab where the nurses will instruct him in stretching exercises that will greatly improve his mobility. If his insurance will not cover, at least visit a rehab class and observe the exercises their patients perform. Perhaps a kind nurse will provide a copy of instructions showing the exercises. I found the arm-cycle machine to be of GREAT help in loosening up my shoulders and upper body muscles. Those muscles are stretched to the max during open heart surgeries where the chest is spread open like a clam shell. 'AL'
