Recovery Fron Bypass
From John: "For you in the U.S., have a great Holiday. and for you in other countries thank God you don't live in the USA and have a great day.........John....." HEY JOHN, this is NOT political, this is about YOUR recovery, you poor, poor baby. America is a wonderful place!, John. It is your homeland. It is a country which has allowed you to gain your education and apply your skills - and mouth off like you do without fear of retribution. You are free to go to church, the synagogue, the mosk or stay home and watch CNN if you choose. You seem to blame the United States for your medical condition. Hey, there are no mass graves outside of Carlsbad. When you take mom to the Mall or out to dinner you don't think that a car bomb might kill you both. Your neighbors have not disappeared into the darkness of night. I'm so sorry that you are not getting free medical care, so so sorry - and you don't have to wait while they work their way down the list to get to your case. But you do have to be responsible enough to take care of yourself when something goes wrong, like drive a car somewhere. And when that free doctor in his country goes home at night he probably works on his resume so that he can come to the land of the free and practice his craft. We've all had glitches in our recovery, John. We help each other get through it as best we can. At times we offer advice. And I have some for you. Get the hell out of the USA, leave, go anywhere in the world you want, just get your sorry ass out of this great country. The sooner the better. Art Harding Plano, Texas
OK, so we are getting a bit political, I might as well chime in. Well, things are tough here in NJ as well(not just for me). The fact that I have been 'out of' work for so long , after 23 years straight without a break, (gonna be 2 years in Jan.) is not a testament to a thriving economy, to be sure. The fact that there is now a world market place for labor(courtesy of the computer age) is certainly no help, either. Your x-rays can be interpreted in the Phillipines!(now, was that spot on the transmitted image in the original film??) The fact that my skill set needs to be augmented is unavoidable, if I want to continue in the computer field. It is a competitive world out there. So how do I respond? I am responding by taking my CPR/AED instructorship on the road. Trying to get private gigs. I taught (and continue to teach) in a local hospital. I drive a limo/car service at night (ok, so I am 'under' employed) . My creativity is stimulated as a business person perhaps more than it was in computer work....necessity is a mother , eh? I realize now how dependent I became on 'them' giving me a job on their terms. Gives me new respect for the small business people that are out there succeeding. I'll roll the dice and see what my own efforts can produce. As far as health care, there are places that do provide free care - such as Deborah Hospital in NJ, and, I hear, there are places to get free or reduced price meds... Yes, there is a depression going on, from where I sit, but I ain't gonna take it whining...won't help in any case. Hello John, I also had bypass surgery in Lubbock in October, 2002. I did well in the rehab but have had chest, shoulder and back pain the entire time up until about three weeks ago and for some reason it just quit. My ribs are still sore but the constant aching is gone. I did take advil for the pain at first, that's what the surgeon's office told me to do. The advil upset my stomach so I was taking maalox or pepto along with the advil and that finally got the best of me so I just quit the advil and the maalox and decided just to put up with it. I took a sleeping pill at night and would get 4 or 5 hours before the pain would wake me up and then I'd lay there for a couple of hours before getting up. So glad the pain has gone and just hoping it doesn't come back. My leg is also numb and I plan to ask the surgeon about that when I see him this week. Other than that I have done really well. I walk on a treadmill for 20 minutes 3 times a week and 3.5 to 4 mph. LIft weights (5 lbs. and 8 lbs.), walk about 30 minutes everyday and ride a bike occasionally and swim at every opportunity. We do need a national health program like Canada and England and have for most of my adult life and I am 61. Both political parties are responsible for the failure to provide us a health plan that covers everyone. At the very least the children should be covered and many are not. I write and email my congressmen all the time and have voted for an independent or the Green Party. That's all I know to do as 1 person but if I hear of something else that would help, I would certainly do that also. I have good insurance and know how very important it is to be covered. Very few can afford any type of hospitalization or surgery anymore. Neither of my children have health insurance and one has worked at the same place for over 20 years but its a small business and cannot afford to offer health coverage. We should all do our part to let our representatives know how very important it is to take care of people when they are sick. Especially in a free society like ours, no one should go without medical care and the medicines they need. Good luck to you. We go to Carlsbad or rather White City nearly every year. We often spend our summers in Mayhill, NM and then stay a couple of days in White City to go to Carlsbad. By the way I walked in and out (it was a slow weekday and the ranger gave us permission) of the caverns in September and had quadruple bypass in October. I did not have any pain or symptoms. Sure don't feel as good now as I did then. Ann

We have it for the Elderly, the Poor, but folks like me, the in-betweens are in deep ####. However, we do have some very fine hospitals, doctors and support staff for which I am gratfull, and should not have made that statement, sorry..And yes I am a lucky one. John...... i have ness in most countries with gov medical u would wait for this surgery until u were nearly dead Rose

Hi Toni, I'm probley going to make a complete fool of myself here in giving some input to your situation. At the same time I just got up and am on my first cup of coffee and sooo I figured "what the heck". : ) Just some thoughts here. (remember before my first cup of coffee is finished) I was in a wheel chair for almost 2 years. I have never had bypass surgery so I can't really relate except from what I have been researching and reading here. When I first became wheelchair bound it was very hard to take. I had always been VERY active in my daughters life and just life itself. One thing I learned while in this life style was if I wanted it bad enough, I could figure out a way to get it done or do just about anything I wanted to. I think the key was to learn to do it slower and not get frustrated. I guess what I'm saying is try doing things slower as far as school goes and if that is what you want bad enough pase yourself. The end results may take a little longer but you can still reach your goal. Prayer is a very powerful friend and remember God sends us his "grace" (power) to do what ever we really want to do. Ask for help getting up those inclines that hurt you. If you can't get the support you need at home find it else where. At that time in my life I had no family except my (at the time) 13 year old daughter. I was being operated on about every 4 months or so. Lots of Pain : ) If you feel pulling all nighters was the cause of your heart problems do 1/2 nighters. Don't expect support from your family, try and pull your strength from within. Take "baby steps". Coarse it all depends on how bad you want something weather it is your degree or just being happy with life. Try to remember you are "Blessed". You are alive after your surgery. Look out that window. There is a whole wonderful world out there just waiting for you to take your part of it. Just for now, take your part slower and find the joy in just being able to do what you can. hugs nancy
Hi Toni, "Wow" you must be a very strong person to have gone through what you have in life. Have you ever thought of writing a book about your life? Kind of a book that might help others that have gone through what you have in life? Just thinking out loud here. : ) I wish you lived here in Georgia cause I sure would help you when you needed it. Your last words in your post were "No one knows how to help me". the "Lord knows". Just ask him. Starting tonight you will be in my prayers. hugs nancy
Hi Pauline, I live in Columbus. I tried to look up Bowman and all I got was Elberton. Where is Bowman in relation to Columbus? I'm right on the border of Al and Ga. Kinda in the middle of the border. Phnix City is just a jump across the bridge. I'm about 100 miles south of Atlanta. Thats not very long since you had the CABG. How are you doing? Would love to get to know you too. You have my private email address if you want to use it. Or here is fine. nancy
