Open Heart surgery recovery question
Would it be advisable to rent a hospital bed for the recover period at home? is it hard to get in out of bed, or a chair?

I could not lay comfortably in a bed for almost a month. How about a recliner with a lift if you are having trouble getting out of the chair. This is just my opinion, trust me when I say we will all let you know what we think. Which is the great thing about this group. Whatever you get make sure it is very comfortable. Good luck Carol
It was easier to get out of a low regular bed than out of the high hospital bed. As I remember from those foggy pumphead days (daze?), they had me getting out of that hospital bed only a couple of days after I was taken out of the ICU (two days in ICU if my memory is correct). I was taken for walks around the hospital corridors, accompanied by a hospital assistant and a rack holding all the gear attached to me. No stairs, however. That would have been a bit tricky, even if I were up to it. My hospital stay was six days, which is more than normal, but I was up to taking a couple of showers before I left. I was required to take a wheelchair to the car, but was able to walk on my own from the car about 50 yards to the condo where I stayed for a few weeks before the long drive home. regards, Bob S. Hello Jason,It is not very long since i had my Qaudruple bypass.I have been out of hospital about seven weeks.I found it was easier getting in and out of my own bed, than the hospitals, because it is lower. For the first two weeks i slept upright in bed, just like i did in hospital, once i was used to my own bed i gradually got lower and lower, until i was laying flat, and now i am laying on my side which is rellay good.I found it is just a matter of taking one step at a time.Hope this helps Ian.
