One Year Today
I just thought I would post what is happening with me. I am 49 and today is the one year anniverary of my bypass. I thought for sure by now I would be fine but I have had many complications. First I had pericarditis that kept returning, then I develloped osteomylitis- infection of the sternum and after numerous scans it was decided I would need surgery to remove the infection from the bone but then a final scan showed that the sternum did not fuse together properly and since there was a wide space cartilege develloped between the sternum and now that cartilege is inflamed. I was scheduled for surgery last week to fix the problem but when they did the pre surgery blood work it was discovered that my white blood cell count was way too high so it was postponed. I am scheduled to have it this Wednesday - August 25 if all is well with the blood work on MOnday. I have been told the surgery is risky because I have no sac protecting the heart but I am in so much pain and have so much trouble breathing that the risk is worth it. I am posting this not for sympathy but to let others know that some people do really well but once in a while there is someone who doesn't and yet I am glad to have had the surgery and have had another year with my family.
