O/T ~Prayers urgently needed for Gail Gentile!
Hello everyone, I wanted to let you know that Gail, whom many of you know, is in urgent need of prayer. Always of course, because she has just recently gone through not only her second bypass, but at the same time of the bypass, they also did a "whipple surgery" involving surgery on five organs because of pancreatic cancer. The pancreatic cancer was detected in early stage during testing for other things, so she was given hope that it would give her a better chance of surving pancreatic cancer. She has been in the CCU for a couple of weeks, but was recently put in isolation in hopes of a better chance of ridding the inflammation of the pericarditis. The plan was for her to be kept there another couple of weeks before release. In addition, diabetes had caused a bowel infection. That is pretty much under control now. But other things are not going as well. The aggressive treatment for the pericarditis is not working. And to make matters even more dire, she received word yesterday that all 5 organs they operated on are showing cancer. They also think it's in the spine. She cannot have chemo and radiation because of her inability to hold down anything...including liquids and any food. She is in surgery at this time to have a feeding tube installed so that she can get the needed nourishment before she can begin chemo and radiation for the cancer battle she faces. I hope I am not leaving out any of the medical conditions and concerns; there are just so many...and I've been so upset since learning that things have suddenly taken a turn for the worse. Tonight at 7:30 Eastern Time, a special mass is being conducted by her priest in her hospital room. We hope those desiring to pray for Gail will join so many of her support group friends in a joint effort to stop at the same time tonight, and lift Gail and her family up in prayer. Although she has a laptop in her hospital room, we do not know when or if she will be able to post after her surgery this morning. If she is unable to, I usually only receive updates from her son about twice a week. Prayer is the only support that we can offer her at this time due to the distance. Gail lives in Canada. If you believe in prayer, this is something you can do for her; please join us in this special blessing for her. Gail, her husband and two children are sustained by their faith, and are so appreciative of support. Thank you. Connie Turner
Thank you Caroline. I just received an update from her son, and I will post it below. Connie Mom is out of recovery and into CCU but she is heavily sedated and will remain that way for 48 hours. This is what they did today: scope thropugh the belly button to investigate the lower abdomen feeding port inserted through the belly button using the same incision endoscopic scope through her mouth to check the esophogus and upper abdomen IV's x 2 for antibiotics, 2 kinds of anti-inflammatories, pain medication, anti nausea medication, medication to help digestion and a normal saline to keep the IV lines open a tube through the nose was also inserted so that it could reach the intestine and they could put one of the liquid medications in that way as it is not available in an IV form I glanced through the posts and I think Mom kept as much from all of you as she kept from us as to how bad she is feeling. Her esophugus and stomach are burnt raw - might be the diabetes and not the cancer, still being investigated and she has lost 54 lbs. in the last 4 weeks. Dad said to tell you how pleased he is to know you will be praying along with us tonight. My Dad is a big believer is the power of Mass. It is a healing mass that will be done at the church, her choir friends will sing her favourite songs, Danny Boy and This Little Light Of Mine. After the mass the priest will then go to the hospital to do special annointings and if she is awake she will be given communion. Now that Mom gave me her password to post and has a laptop at the hospital it should be easier to post updates Mom said to make sure to tell Deb not to worry - instead to look after herself. Hope I remember everything she asked me to do Mark Gentile Connie Turner
