nortriptyline

Hello All: I just joined this list. I've suffered from migraines since an automobile accident 7 yrs ago. For a year afterwards I was on nortriptyline. It affected me badly and now I have a brother-in-law who has been taking it and having the same problems. The include: personality changes, mood swings, weight retention, sensitivity to sunlight and tiredness. I am trying to gather information to present to him in hopes of convincing him to search for a different medication. If this is a redundant subject for this list, I apologize and ask those with information to email me privately in regards to the nortriptyline. Thanks everybody. ALindsley

Anotherr side effect of Nortriptyline is constipation. After a blood test to check the levels of the drug in my system, my neuro cut me back from 150 mg a day to 100 mg, but the side effect remains. I'm skinny, so weight retention for me might be a good idea. :-) Other than possibly tiredness, I don't have the other side effects mentioned above. I'd happily trade the one side effect that I do have for one of the others. Jeff

Hi all, Went to my pcp yesterday and she wants me to try another preventative drug that I know nothing about. Has anyone ever taken Nortriptyline? I know that it's an anti-depressant but that's all I know. Does anyone have any experience with this one? Good or bad?? Please let me know what you think of it. I'd like some feedback before I actually start taking it. I would really appreciate any opinions anyone can give. My migraines have gotten really bad over the last two to two and a half months. Everyday I have at least a bad headache but three to four days a week it is a migraine. I just get so frustrated at trying all these different things and nothing working. Anyone have any other *new* things they have tried that has worked at all? Also, how much feverfew do you take? Is it maybe better to take more than the 125mg? Has anyone tried that? Thanks so much everyone. This list has been a real lifeline for me even though I never post I really do appreciate all the information I get from reading this. Thanks for keeping me sane. Pain free days for all, Jo-Ann

Not much experience but to be honest it didn't help me at all. I was on Amitriptyline first and that did more for me than the other. I couldn't even stay on it for very long though because of the weight gain while I was in the military. Love, Gabrielle
