Left arm pain
Hi Me again- Dad's recovery is still going very slow, still not sleeping well either. He is nearly 2 months post 3x CABG. He has had heavy pain in his back, well his rib cage in the back I guess, still no relief from that, now his left arm is really bothering him. Anyone have some insight.........Please..........thanks Marie
Is he working? If not, he should be getting plenty of sleep all day long. More important, is he exercising? He should at least be walking. Don't be an enabler - only if he's doing everything right would I empathize with any other little pains here and there.
Hi Marie, At 2 mos post-op, I had left arm pain again. It was just like the pain that sent me to the doc in the first place. I went to the ER three times. Had CAT Scan, EKGs, Thallium Stress Test, and they said nothing was wrong with me. After that, went to Boston to see my regular doc, with test results from the ER closer to home having been faxed to them. My regular doc called an ambulance to transport me to the hospital a few blocks from his office. The E.R. docs reacted the same way as the ones at my local hospital, until I told them I was leaving to go to a competing hospital for a cath. They did the cath after I raised h*ll, and found out that one of the bypasses had failed and the artery was 80% clogged. They put in a stent. The upside was that without the bypass, they would have been unable to stent that artery. All of the docs involved said that in 20+ years of practice, they had not seen a bypass fail so quickly. So, to be on the safe side, I'd make sure your Dad sees a cardiologist about his left arm pain. Take care, Aileen
Marie, it will be one year next week. I'd be very worried about those carotids, too. It must be hard on you to be so far away with all this happening with your Dad. Hopefully your sister is keeping a close eye on him. Take care, Aileen
