I have a question

Hi all. Frank is scheduled for a renal artery test in a couple of weeks because of some type of elevated level having to do with his kidneys as they relate to his heart. Hope this isn't too technical for anyone. :) Anyway, I was wondering Ann, or anyone else, can you fill me in on what they are looking for and if a problem is found, what do they do about it? They told us it would be about 1 1/2 hours long and he has to have it as outpatient at hospital early in the morning. Also said it was kind of like a sonogram. Any help would be appreciated! Sharon

Hi Sharon, Hmmmmmm.....well did they mention that he would have an IV injection of something for the test? If so, it sounds like he may be having a Renal Arteriogram which does look at the renal arteries (the arteries of the kidneys). I'm not exactly sure how they are linking that to his heart, though. Did they mention exactly what they are looking for? Ann Ann McCrea, RN www.rexall.com/atm/health

Just that some level in his kidneys was 3.8 and last year it was 3.7 and it should be 3.0. It is a renal artery test, I know that was the name of it. I'm not sure what they are looking for. His cardiologist is the one that told him to go to his regular dr and have it done. It's so hard to keep up with everything and know the right questions to ask! Thank you for any info you can give me. Sharon

Hi Sharon, I agree - it is so hard to keep up. Especially when you start dealing with another organ altogether! Just keeping up with Heart stuff is hard enough without adding the kidneys.... Well, I will be very interested to hear whatever else you learn. I can't think of a renal value that is 3.0 as normal! (Could be my own brain fog at work<g medications is having an effect on kidneys or if it is something else all together. Will you keep me posted? Take care, and hang in there.
