Hi Lynn from ~Lyn~

Lyn - I am curious about how you feel when you take the Zomig. That is what I have been taking but am thinking I should change. Thanks. God Bless, Sue

You can buy 5-HTP that doesn't have the additives. Solaray makes a really high-quality 5-HTP. When taken solo it has no laxative effect at all. My naturopath said that you MUST take calcium with magnesium, because calcium tends to cancel out the laxative effect of mag. YOu might try this combo again. Beta Blockers: Thanks to others for the info on Inderal. I really don't want to put my son on beta blockers unless completely necessary. He also has ADD and I don't want him on Ritalin until he goes through adolescence and grows. I tried beta blockers myself and had a bad reaction. Due to a sluggish liver that I've had all my life, I started getting poor liver function and had to stop taking it. (It did make me warm for the first time in my life, however. I'm always cold and the beta blockers improved my circulation.) Imitrex/Zomig: I haven't noticed any difference between these drugs at all. Zomig is supposed to work faster, but it doesn't seem to. I sometimes get the heaviness in my chest or the tiredness, but Zomig has the same effect. It's interesting to me how differently these drugs affect people. To me, Imitrex is a wonder drug and I would be desperate without it. ER: I've never had to go to an ER with a migraine, even though I had some periods where I had them every day. For some crazy reason, I feel lucky that it never got that bad. Lynn

~*~*~ Thanks Lynn I'll look for the Solaray brand. When I used to take Magnesium I always took the chelated Cal-Mag then my Dr suggested the huge dose so I switched. He actually said "Magnesium Citrate" not knowing that is the Liquid Laxative form. I'll probably try to go back to the Cal-Mag tabs. He only heard using Mag cause a Neuro at Darmouth was trying it, normally any Vitamin or Herb I mention to my Dr brings on a blank look! (The Nurse practioner I sometimes see has a more open mind.) I told him 3 years ago I was taking Feverfew & he didn't have a clue! Well off to work, hopefully the brain pain will ease for awhile. I feel so inadequate, I only work 3 short days a week now & it takes all I've got. My husband doesn't feel it's worth it for me to work at all since I pay for it with HAs & Migraines on my time off. Have a decent day every one. ~Lyn~ You can buy 5-HTP that doesn't have the additives. Solaray makes a really

Lyn: From what I understand, Magnesium actually works as a natural beta blocker without the side effects. I tried feverfew, too, but it did nothing for me. I finally found a doctor who at least doesn't look blank when I mention herbs. She is very supportive of my 5-HTP regimen. I work at home now and it's a huge relief knowing that I don't have to call in sick! Lynn
