I am leaving for awhile, will be back. My hubby who had the open heart surgery going on 12 weeks ago, is scheduled for knee surgery the 20th. He is so anxious to get it fixed. (artheroscopic meniscus tear) so he can get back to excersizing. He had to pull out of his rehab classes for two weeks as he just couldn't even walk anymore due to the knee. He was pushin it to feel better heartwise....oh well....I hope the surgery goes well. I can't say enough about the rehab program OR the off-pump bypass. By the way, to the young man who is going ot have bypass surgery and was wanting to know what to expect...... Good luck to you:-)......check out the off pump way and see what your hospital offers.....also, I wish you had someone with you......I met an older woman who had her daughter come live with her for awhile.....and she said she could not have made it w/o her help....BUT......I also saw a young man about your age in the surgeons office a week after his off pump surgery....he lives alone and was doing real well. He had a friend drive him that day tho, as you are not supposed to drive for 3 weeks. (standard for here) My hubby tried at 3 weeks and found he was not comfortable yet, so I did the driving for awhile. Anyway, the young gentleman in the doctors office said he had overdid it and did something to his wire, etc.....as he found it hard to follow the docs orders about lifting, using his arms for support, etc.I find it is so hard especially for the men to learn to NOT use their body in the same way for awhile..... So my advice is......please make sure you listen and follow doctors orders, use your pillow to you chest like you're supposed to, and do not use your arms.......a nurse told my husband to pretend you don't even have arms for a few weeks, that way you will not goof and damage yourself:-) The young guy tho, was getting around much faster than my hubby did.....due to his age no boubt...I thought he was doing terrific for just one week out. Make sure you keep your incision clean. I took care of my husbands and seriously you can hardly see a scar. The other gentleman tho, was not as neat.....I wanted to go over and clean his while in the doctors office:-) Good luck to you, keep positive healing thoughts.....God Bless, Jill
