Joe Parker posted: "I've seen no such problems posted to the list. At least, not in numbers that would indicate a relationship to bypass operations." Joe, There were some brief posts back in November or early December regarding this; perhaps you missed them during that busy holiday time. The original post suggested it was the statin drugs. If I recall correctly, a relative had warned him in advance that it would happen...and it did. I don't know what kind of "in numbers that would indicate a relationship to bypass operations" that you need for verification? Or even WHY YOU need it verified? I haven't been searching the web for statistics to quote to anyone, or prove anything to anyone. I don't feel that need. I'm only sharing my own experience in regards to that post. And, I only know that, since I read that post, 3 of the support group who actively participate in board posts (Michael, Gail and myself) have had, or been scheduled for gall bladder surgery. There may be more out there who haven't chimed in about their situation; I don't know. I didn't request a poll or statistics. This is a discussion and support group; I have discussed it here on the board, because I am a recent bypass survivor....and in view of that fact, things that happen to me or others healthwise after undergoing bypass may be releavent in the case of others. I like knowing what others have run up against. And I enjoy the support and feedback I receive here. It's encouraging to know that others have similar concerns; it reinforces mine. In that respect, Michael, Gail and I have gone into even more indepth discussions in regards to our current situations via personal emails. I, for one, had already been undergoing extensive gastro testing for several weeks prior to the post. I know that Gail has had several health problems, including cancer, and assume gastro testing led to discovery of her gall bladder problem. Not sure how Michal's presented. I don't think she's told me; she's just discussed the operation, and her daily recovery. In my case, 7 weeks post bypass....internal bleeding/anemia led to more rounds of nuclear stress testing and sonograms, and when that was discovered to be okay....a STAT referral with gastro specialist. Although a few minor problems in other areas of the gastro tract were discovered with the endoscopy, colonoscopy, barium tests, abdominal sonogram, etc., and finally, the small bowel capsule camera....and are being treated, the one that is not letting up is the gall bladder; it is worsening. It doesn't have stones; it is inflamed, swollen and causing a lot of pain and discomfort. Tests show that instead of filtering at 30% as it should, it is only filtering at 14%. They tell me it will only get worse once it starts. I want to get it out so I can get on with my cardiac recovery. I felt better 7 weeks after my bypass than I do now, and think it's probably the reason. In addition, after that original post, I questioned my primary care physician, the gastro specialist that he referred me to, and the surgeon that the gastro specialist referred me to for the surgery....all confirmed TO ME that, while it is not understood why....this gall bladder problems happen at an alarming rate with bypass patients. The surgeon said he's run across it, often, immediately after bypass. He said others seem to have failure or inflammation requiring removal a few months out. My problems began 7 weeks out, and I am now 5 1/2 months post bypass and scheduled next week for the surgery. I don't need links to any web site or official statistics to try to disprove my personal experience; I just wanted the support of this group in relation to my health since bypass. And I wanted to give my support to others who might desire my support. And...your reason for posts? I haven't exactly seen any that were for supporting anyone else, or requesting support for yourself. I've only seen antagonistic posts. I would prefer that you just skip reading any of my posts in the future; I'm obviously here for a different reason than you seem to be. You obviously don't need MY support....or perhaps, the support of anyone else who posts here. No one can give support to someone who already knows it all. That's really sad; how wonderful that you have yourself! Connie Connie Turner

A few days ago a dear soul that had the heart surgery said in her post recovery she had to have gallbladder surgery. I had gangrene in my gallbladder and had to have it removed many years ago. Can someone who has had the gallbladder surgery give me a comparison recovery and pain wise to the heart surgery? Of course I was in so much pain prior to surgery that any post op surgery was a piece of cake. Thanks if someone can share. Phyllis
