Hello, Thank you for your welcome. I look forward to meeting all of you. I was interested in your post.....after you discontinued the Fiorinol/codeine and Tylenol/codeine, what do you take at this time for your pain? Are you taking any preventives that seem to work? Or any abortives that work for you? (ie. Imitrex, Maxalt, Zomig, etc.) I've been on probably 200 meds over the last 25 years and only Elavil and Inderal ever worked to prevent the pain, and only for about two months..then the pain returned. Zomig works about 30 (?)% of the time for a migraine.....but I do take Fiorinol/codeine for pain....I try very hard not to take them often and I know all about rebound h.a.s, but what do you do when none of the preventives work for you..year after year? I personally cannot withstand that much daily pain. My neurol. lets me self-inject Demerol/Phenergan for the super severe migraines...but of course, that is quite limited. Just wondered what worked for you....how do you manage your pain? And how do you cope with the emotional effects of constant pain? Thanks! Christy
Been there; done that. I tried everything you mentioned...and then some. What do I take now? Oxycontin 20 mg, twice a day. It's time-released Percodan...used for chronic pain. And, I still take an occasional Fiorinal w/codeine, against my doctors orders. Let him live with a chronic pounding head for one day and see what he'd pop into his mouth! I hate the way I have to live...with constant headaches. Even with the oxycontin, which, by the way, is used for people with chronic pain due to cancer...even with that, I still have some pain. As far as the emotional coping: I'm on anti-depressants: Elavil and Celexa. Hang in there Christy!
Christy, Funny you should note that Elavil and Inderal only worked for you for a couple of months. Both my Elavil and Inderal dosages were increased after a couple of months because the headaches returned / continued and now after a couple months on the increased dosage of Inderal I get the worst migraine I've had in months. And I *thought* my energy levels increased some after switching from Elavil to Inderal but I'm still not as energetic as I was before the Elavil. I'm wondering if the Inderal is still slowing me down but it's not as noticeable because the Elavil was so much worse. Just some speculation. Melody
*I* am the real and One-And-Only "MyAchyHead"...LOL, and I take 2o mg Oxycontin twice daily...and a Fiorinal w/Codeine or two thruout the day. It sucks. "MyAchyHead" -List Moderator
