Follow up research? and a couple other questions?
I am 59 years old and under went quadruple bypass 4 years ago. I was fully recovered and working physically with in 3 months. Since my recovery I have never experienced any chest discomfort or shortness of breath. My wife and I have applied for the Peace Corps. They have rejected my application based on my cardiac history. I recently underwent a thallium stress test and the cardiologist has pronounced me as healthy and no more at risk than anyone else in my peer group. I have one more avenue of appeal and I want to mount a strong offensive and provide overwhelming evidence that I should be accepted. Does anyone know of any follow studies that have been done in recent years that I might look at and use to support my case? I would appreciate any information or leads you might be able to provide. Please ask your cardiologists if they know of anything. One other issue: Does anyone experience any lingering deep muscle/joint pain from the surgery? I didn't notice it until the last year or so and it comes and goes but at times can be quite painful. I was worried for awhile that it might be from the Statin drugs but that seems not to be the case. Any light you could shine on this phenominum would also be appreciated. Thanks for reading.
I can't speak from experience on this one, but I have been told the any surgery leaves scar tissue and that this can cause a number of problems, including pains in the muscles and joints. My source for this information is my daughter, who is a physician and also a survivor of a couple of major abdominal surgeries. Her training was in a school of osteopathic medicine and she claims that osteopathic manipulation has helped relieve some of the pain that she has had as a result of surgical scarring. regards, Bob S.
