Demoral?

Hi to all!! I have been on this list now for a few days, & I have to say you guys make me feel better. I have nothing to complain about!!! I knew most of my migraines weren't terrible in comparison to those I have heard of, but most of you REALLY have it bad! I hope I don't sound too depressing. But my migraines are affecting my life alot & my family. A constant source of stress for everyone in my house. I am wondering, when you have a bad one & say you go to the ER, are you assertive & tell them what you want or do you wait for them to come up with the answers? I have found that when I have had to go to the ER or my gp when I've got one, they seem to question or doubt that it's for real. About the most relief I've gotten from going there has been Fiorinal & that does nothing for me. I hadn't heard of Demoral for HA's (just when I had my daughter). Is it usually good? One more thing - I usually only get slightly nauseaus with mine - have never actually vomitted. This was much worse when I was a teenager though. I feel for you guys!! Take Care!! God Bless, Sue

Fiorinal/Fioricet contain a lot of caffeine--and caffeine is known to be a migraine trigger. The barbituates don't cause rebound headaches but they can cause some people to develop a dependency. I have found that by cutting my caffeine intake to a tiny bit (I refuse to give it up entirely), my headaches decreased dramatically. Then, the occasional use of Fiorinal and/or a cup of strong coffee/tea, will help the headache. Most doctors realize this, but still hand Fiorinal out like it's candy. My doctor gave me Phrenelin, which is Fiorinal without the caffeine. It's okay for my tension headaches, but it has Tylenol in it rather than aspirin and Tylenol has always been completely ineffective on me. L.

Hi Sue... I find that I'm not assertive when I have a Migraine... In fact, I usually can barely tell you my name. If you have to go to the ER, and can't get someone assertive to go with you, I have had my neuro. call ahead and tell them I'm coming. He will then let the ER know what usually works for me. If you can't do that, then have the ER write down what it gives you, and then you will be able to show it next time. I've usually gotten Demerol and Phenergan in shot form from the ER. It will almost always knock me out but I have woken up the next morning needing to get another shot. I've been using Fiorinal and it will ease the pain some, but won't get rid of the HA. Julie

Hey Karen... I'm blessed to have a sweet but very assertive 6'9" husband who is willing to stand up for me when I can't do it. Julie
