CORDARONE WARNING
Amiodarone has several potentially fatal toxicities, the most important of which is lung toxicity which has resulted in clinically manifest disease at rates as high as 10 to 17 percent in some series of patients. This type of lung toxicity has been fatal about 10 percent of the time. Liver toxicity also is common with amiodarone and has been fatal in some cases. Like other drugs used to treat heart rhythm disturbances, amiodarone can make the heart rhythm disturbance worse. This has occurred in 2 to 5 percent of patients using the drug.
Bogie that is very interesting, once again they have us over a barrel- the first sentence in the guidelines for this drug is that it is prescribed for people with life threating irregularities- rythym, etc. When I do not take this medicine it feels as though I am being strangled from the inside - everything goes haywire- I do not no which but the combination of meds that I now take seem to help- Lovastatin, Isordil, ASA, Zestril, Plavix, Amiodarone, Lopressor. Docs usually listen with the stethoscope for fluids in and around lungs and heart, but I can usually tell thru a back ache if there is too much fluid- Best regards Steve Bogie <bogdankl@...
