Coffee
A quick question. I know that coffee is a stimulant and is not good for post heart bypass patients, but can someone explain why this is not healthy for us? Also, is de-caffinated coffee OK? Sipping Tea Colin Scotland [LINK]

Actually, there's nothing wrong with a little caffeine - say, 1-2 cups of coffee a day. Studies that show increased risk of heart disease involve serious drinkers - 4-5 cups a day or more. It's unlikely these people would switch to decaf as it's the stimulation their bodies are craving. Moderation is the key. One aspirin a day helps things, but if you start taking 5 a day regularly you can expect trouble.
"Jillie" <anssepha@s... out...as far as coffee......I have heard from the rehab we went to that coffee can UP your cholesterol levels. Now if cholesterol is no problem, then no problem:-) Is there anyone here that hasn't had a cholestrol problem and has had CABG? I mean by the new standards that LDL should be under 100. My hsuband had 131 and a family histroy and they said cholesterol in his case was a problem. We were told absolutely NO coffee & no caffeine at the hospital and forever after. And this also includes theobromine - tea - supposedly Red Rose Tea (our fav) is very high. Also this extends to chocolate. Husband is not diabetic and not overweight but we were told to watch out for caffeine, tea (other than green and some herb) and chocolate.
Joe Parker <joeparker@f... absolutely NO coffee & no caffeine at the hospital and forever after. << This may be due to arrhythmia nope - no arrhythmia - just caution since that Tuffs teahing hospital feels that caffeine raises cholosterol and that if you had cardiac surgery ldl should be below 100 so you need to do as much as you can to lower ldl
Be careful. Many of the free smiley sites pay their freight by installing malware on your system. Some worse than others, but be aware. Note also that many mailing lists only allow plain text; in those the smiley urls won't display properly.
