Chest Bone Pain
It has been almost 10 months since they opened my chest for a single by-pass,they used a vein out of my chest. I have complained of chest pain ever since. It don't feel like its in my heart, more like under the chest plate itself. It goes from slight to severe, also sharp pain between my shoulder blades. I took Celebrex for 4 months in case it was Dresslers Syndrome. I've had 3 EKG's an 1 chest x-ray,and nothing seems out of wack,Im still on 13 meds. 1.Nexium 40mg. 8.Altace 2.5mg 2.Asprin 81mg 9.Atenolol 25mg 3.Klor-con 10 10meq 10.Zocor 40mg 4.Levsinex 0.375mg 11.Hytrin 10mg 5.Hydrochlorothazide 12.5mg 12.Hydroxyzine Pamoate 10mg 6.Foltx 13.Ambien 10mg {as needed for sleep} 7.Plavix 75mg Vitamins, 1.CoQ10 100mg 4.Vitamin E 2.Sentrum Silver 5.B-Complex 3.Fish Oil Cap. I'm a 66yr. old male that enjoyed 65 years of good health. This past 10 months have really been tough. I completed 16 weeks of Cardiac Rehab, all the while bitching about chest pain.I have tried spray nitro and all that does is give me a headache. My cardio guy says that I have no broken wires,Dresslers, and that it may take me a couple of years to get back to where I was post "cabg".I told him to go have his chest cracked open just to see what it feels like. He has no more idea how I feel, then I know how a woman feels having a baby.Sorry to gripe so much. I just feel like I got caught up in the system and can't find a way out......Mac
Mac Sorry to hear that you are still having alot of pain post your open heart surgery. I have a few suggestions (warning these are just suggestions and not medical advice) If you are having repeated chest pain problems I would go farther than just an EKG, and mention that you would like a stress test with either excercise or medication. I would also ask about decreasing your zocor, or trying a different cholesterol medication. I would also try taking high dose ibuprofen if you kindey function is good and your doctor okays it. Also, I would be curious to know what you lab tests look like as far as sodium, and potassium as both can cause muscle pain. Just some ideas, let us know how you are doing and feel free to vent in this place! hugs, annmarie
Hi Mac, It has been 5 months since my bypass and I still have severe pain in the chest area - the breast bone area and to the left of the incission. Mine was a triple bypass which used both the mammary artery and the leg vein. The pain is very severe at times - other times it is more bearable- laying down is still difficult sometimes - between the shoulders there is also pain but not as bad as the chest. I am in a rehab program which goes on for 30 weeks - so far I have gone for 7 weeks. Part of the rehab is 15 minutes of working out with a piece of theraband tubing using it to do exercises led by the instructor. I bought a piece of the tubing and over the past 10 days after doing the exercises twice a day I notice a big difference in the amount of pain. My medications are quite different from yours. For the Heart: Enteric coated aspirin 325mg Altace 5mg - just increased from 2.5mg Metoprolol 25mg Lipitor 10mg For Breathing Problems and after the surgery which still continue and Pericarditis: Indomethacin 25mg For Diabetes: Glyburide 20mg Metformin 2000mg Neurontin 1200mg Elavil 25mg Arthritis: Celebrex 400mg B12 injections twice a week Gail in Mississauga, Canada
It means the person responding has committed one of the common sins on a mailing list. They have neglected to change their subject: line to accurately represent what they want to talk about. We've all done it. Some never learn. Only people with lots of time on their hands reads ALL the messages to a list. The rest of us quickly jump through pausing only to check the subjects that catch our fancy.

I do not take anything with niacin in it as it also is not supposed to be good for bypass patients. My information may not be correct but I did get copies of the studies done on the niacin and it was enough for me to think I better not take it. Ann, what studies on Niacin are you referring to. If you can do it pls send me the web site so I can read it also. Also would all you folks using Co-Enzyme Q10 mind getting back to the board with the price you pay for it and where you get it. I am interested in 150mg dosages. Thanks for you time. Chris in Seattle
I'm very leery of adding clubs to our price comparisons. If you gotta pay a fee up front then it has to be included. Not to mention there's only a very limited number of these stores in large urban areas. Hard to believe anyone's going to better the guy selling for .20 cents/200mg on Ebay.
