An answer to my own question
Although I didn't hear from anyone concerning my questions about swings in BP and sweats (plus another problem which was shortness of breath)....I now know what was going on and am posting this in case someone else needs the info. My husband went into atrial fibrillation which meant a trip to the emergency room. I'll give you the short version: after going to TWO emergency rooms, they finally did a tap and the equivalent of more than a gallon of fluid was extracted from his chest cavity. Little wonder that he was having problems! He's now in some pain from the irritation caused where the fluid had built up, but he's doing MUCH better. So if you or yours is having a similar problem, you might have this possibility checked out.
Trumboroberts, My blood pressure has also been up and down and my heart rate has always been below 60. I do take blood presure medicine but it doesn't seem to change the numbers much. I also have sweating sometimes and have no idea why. It's not menopause as I went through that 9 years ago and this did start after the surgery. I had atrial fibrillation in the recovery room after the surgery. It felt like a lightening bolt went across my chest and my heart jumped all around. Has not happened since and they gave me 3 units of blood right after it happened as my blood pressure was very low and I had lost too much blood during the surgery. It really takes a long time to recover completely from this surgery. It does seem to improve a little every month and I am hoping that one day I will be feeling as good as I did before the surgery. Not better just as good. Ann
Pauline, I had my surgery Oct.2, 2002. Will be glad to answer any questions I can. Ann
