Amiodarone
Thanks, Ann McCrea, for your advice on possible side effects of Amiodarone, the drug for treating irregular heartbeat. I wonder if there is anybody in this group who also is on Amiodarone, how much he or she takes and what side effects it has on her or him. I also wonder if you can take that drug over a longer period of time. I appreciate any answer. Peter
Peter, Regarding the Amiodarone, if I remember correctly it is most desireable to be able to be weaned off the drug - as long term it does have side effects. Ann Ann McCrea, RN Preventing Heart Disease - one heart at a time! www.rexall.com/atm/health
Thank you, Ann, for your advice, but weaning a drug off that you urgently need is easier said than done. I really need it and would like very much to come off it if I knew a substitute, but I don't know and I suppose, my cardiologist doesn't either. As I do take only 100mg of it daily, it hasn't done any bad effect on me yet. I hope it stays this way, but again I would appreciate if anyone could tell me if there is a substitute to Amiodarone. Peter, Oh I definitely agree - that for now you must be on this drug. By weaning I most definitely meant doing so only as your condition would allow and only by doctors orders. I do know that from my experience here, when people ended up on Amiodarone it was because nothing else worked. It is quite a cunundrum that you need it and yet it potentially has side effects. I think it is important to think positively, that it is much needed now, and hopefully sometime soon your body will agree to heal and not need the medicine any longer.
